Miyadaiku Japanese wood joinery for Apple
Along with the Workbox prototype, @ SLATE Custom Studio we engineer the prototype for a few working tables designed for casual work for visitors in the Apple campus,
The intention of this exercise was to assemble the full wood table without any hardware and still be super strong and steady, and yes, we explore Miyadaiku woodwork, I also got so enchanted with this art/technique that I am very excited to implement this technique in further projects, the result was a beautiful minimalist table with a very long span between the support legs with a wood chassis inspired in the structure of the formula1 cars and also very fast to assemble, it was put together in literally 10 minutes, two-person work. Domo arigato!
SLATE Custom Studio also designed a rolling powered cabinet called WorkBox, this was a prototype for Apple employees during the global pandemic in 2020 to work from home, this way they could bring their computer and personal devices to their houses and use them as a power source, working table, rolling seat and toddler baby storage, joke, I have the chance of running the full design and production of the prototypes along with my coworker Karen Rencurrel, the main production was made in china conducted by Apple.
